Non-Fiction Christian Living Books

These are my favorite Christian Living books:

Trusting God by Jerry Bridges.  Bridges does a wonderful job of explaining what it means to really trust God and believe that He is sovereign–and what it means to walk in faith.

Respectable Sins by Jerry Bridges.  Bridges talks about the sins that we overlook and permit in our own lives because they are “lesser” or acceptable sins.  His writing is filled with grace while speaking the truth in love.

Speech
The Silent Seduction of Self Talk: Conforming our Thought Patterns to the Word of God by Shelly Beach. I have one chapter left to read and I can’t recommend this book highly enough. It was honest, compassionate, gentle yet straight forward, but convicting–very convicting!!

Sex
Intimacy Ignited and Intimate Issues by Dillow and Pintus. I am half way through Intimacy Ignited, but would already recommend it. It is the best book about sex (yes, sex) that I’ve read. It is based on the Song of Solomon. It is honest, straight forward and yet gentle. It doesn’t cross any lines of being inappropriate. I believe it is a very healthy discussion of sex for married Christian women. Intimate Issues is a book that addresses questions women have about sex. I have referred to it many times over the years for Godly advice when friends and I have had discussions and issues.

PMS
Jumping off the Hormone Swing by Lorraine Pintus. If you’ve struggled with PMS, then this is a wonderful book. She is forthright and honest, yet funny. She calls a spade a spade and doesn’t mince words. She addresses both the physical and spiritual sides of PMS.

Food and Eating
I am currently reading several books after being discouraged by the ones I had read. I’ll add one in this spot when I feel comfortable doing so.

Submission
Dancing With The One You Love by Cindy Easley This is the first book I have felt comfortable recommending on Submission. And I highly recommend it.

Evangelical Feminism:  New Path to Liberalism by Wayne Grudem   This is an excellent book that examines why submission and the role of women in the church is an important issue.  Grudem explains the reasoning evangelical feminists use to justify their beliefs.

Memoirs
Unplanned by Abby Johnson. Ms. Johnson is a former director of a Planned Parenthood clinic who is now a part of the pro-life movement. She has written a very gracious book. It will help you see how to love people who don’t agree with you. It is more than just a story about abortion.

Parenting
Growing Grateful Kids by Susie Larson
